An Ode to Autumn…

Autumn is crunching leaves in the crisp and chilly air,
Autumn is bobble hats and impressive toddler ‘hat-hair’.
Autumn is welly-boots and splashing in puddles of mud,
Autumn is sunday dinners with gravy and roast spuds.
Autumn is duffle coats and little pinched red cheeks,
Autumn is warming soups* made from left-over spuds and leeks.
Autumn is officially ‘Hot Chocolate and Leggings time’ for mummies,
Autumn is baggy knitwear hiding wobbly tummies.
Autumn is bracing walks in woolly scarves on beaches,
Autumn is socks in bed, runny noses and sneezes.
Autumn is darker evenings snuggling on the sofa,
Autumn is thick pyjamas and blankets to keep cosier.
Autumn is pies and stews and crumbles baked in a tin,
And Autumn is for treating yourself to a warming Autumn gin.

*this soup may** have been made by a well known UK supermarket and passed off as ‘home-made’
**definitely was

We were inspired by Emma’s ‘Play Outside’ theme, and this is my entry to the Center Parcs and Tots 100 November challenge. If I’m chosen, I would like to visit Longleat Forest.
